1st - Mumbles pier

After some decent reports of mackerel the odd bass and smoothound off the pier we decided to go down for a session. So Teggy, Blackcat and Barrelreef travelled down a bit late as usual but with the sun starting to really hot up.Fro bait we had Peelers, rag, squid, mackerel and some live sandeel in the live bait box for some floatfishing.

We knew we had no chance of getting on the end, but found some room on the upper deck near the steps to the end casting into swansea bay.

We set up and with high at around 5pmish would be fishing most of the flood.
1st knock was for Blackcat who in his own words said "something decent on hereit's pulling a bit!"
After a scrap blackcat managed to land a very rare Mumbles stonefish !!! No really it was a stone!!!

After some mick taking of Blackcat we got back to fishing and Teggy landed a little sand smelt on mackerel.

Then Barrelreef had a bite and caught a nice size tub gurnard.

Then teggy had a real good knock and had a double shot of tub gurnard...they must have been fighting over his baits.

Then it all went quiet with no bites on floatfished baits or the ledgered baits. Although some decent smoothound had been landed on the front with the best just touching 10lb.

Barrelreef decided to slide a float down the line of his beachcaster that was baited with crab to try a bit of feathering with his other rod.

Just as the float slid down the line the weight tripped and the line started to move round towards the front of the pier. The weight of the float wouldnt have tripped it and on tightening down Barrel hooked into a good fish.  After a real good scrap and some knitting with Barrel moving to the front to land the fish, a nice smoothie was on the surface and after borrowing a drop net brought the fish up for pictures.

The starry hound weighed in at 7lb 8oz and after some pictures was released unharmed!

A little later Teggy ahd a good bite and hooked into a fish that also pulled him around to the front of the pier.
After some more knitting Teggy got to the front of the pier and played the fish but as it neared the pier it dived for the pier and Teggy thought it was stuck. after some encouragement to keep the pressure on the fish turned and surfaced and after borrowing a net again up came another smoothie!

A 1st smoothie for Teggy and a shore pb,  a starry of 4lb! Teggy couldnt believe how strong smoothound were and was surprised a small fish could fight like that!

A good day with 2 very happy Danglers and a dissappointed one after a blank!

21st - Cold knap

Barrelreef, Teggy and Blackcat fished the knap on an evening tide, and to be honest this session was very quiet with hardly any bites.

Although Blackcat did manage to save a himself from blanking with a whiting.

Both Teggy and Barrel blanked!

23rd - Aberthaw

With a few crab left over from the weekend Barrelreef fished Aberthaw right in front of the car park over high water.

Wasn't really expecting anything but with a few spare hours and the sun shining tried anyway.

Fished 2 up 1 down and blanked!!

26th west Aberthaw

Barrelreef fished Aberthaw even though there was a fierce westerly wind. Conditions were not perfect but the tide was and I wasn't too hopeful. Had a few live peelers left from the weekend and topped them up with some frozen peelers from Fishing world in Tonyrefail.

Got to the ledges around 2 and half hours before low and despite the wind decided it was fishable. I set up cast out and turned to bait up my second trace when zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz my ratchet screamed and I struck into a good fish........after a good fight and a soaking in the surf I managed to land a pb common hound of 13lb!!

While playing the fish my tip ring broke with the ring coming away from the metal part that fits on the rod. In my box I had hot melt and a spare ring but no lighter to heat it and sort it out but after a quick fix by tying it back on with mono I was able to carry on fishing!!

After about 15mins sorting my tip eye out I made my 2nd cast and had another storming run but the fish dropped the bait.......on my 3rd cast and after another good scrap and some precarious moments in the surf I landed a starry hound of 11lb 10oz

A couple of casts later I had another run and landed a smaller common of 8lb 8oz

A cast later after another good battle in the surf and landed a starry hound of 9lb 8oz

Around low water the wind and the sea picked up and the bites died off so called it a day!!

Glad I made the choice to fish in the wind and rain!
Best session for some time for me. 4 hounds, 2 doubles and new pb!!!
Well worth getting wet in the surf and rain and battered by the wind

29th - West Aberthaw

After a succesful session previously Barrelreef fished from 6am til 11am after the hounds again

Set up in the same spot on the ledges where the other hounds had come from. Slow to start but saw 1 or 2 coming out then around 7.30 had a slack liner and wound down to feel a good fish....after a brief scrap I landed a nice starry of 9lb.

No more runs So decided to call it a day around 10.30 but as I was walking back got talking to a few guys who were having a good day. One of the guys turned out to be Jakell a WSF member and they were good enough to let me squeeze in to have 1 more cast near where they were.
Straight away I hooked a good fish and one of the guys helped me land it and photograph it.....a near 11lb starry....cheers fellas!!!

Another good day
