6th West Aberthaw

back to the place of a few previous successful sessions. Knowing the tide was a little big Barrelreef had another crack at the smoothies.

A quiet session with only one bite resulting in a strap of around 4lb. No smoothies for Barrel this time!!

Strappy!!

13th Ginst point WSF Wales v england 6

Blackcat and Barrelreef fished a wsf Wales/England meet for the 1st time at Ginst point. Had some tidy peeler crab, fresh mackerel, ragworm and lugworm we dug ourselves for bait.

With the sun shining conditions seemed good on the day although a bit more surf would have done. The plan was to fish from 10am til 4pm and the match was measure and release.

All met up around 930ish in the carpark and made our way onto the beach.

Tried various rigs and baits but bites were very had to come by, although one or 2 school bass had been caught near us.

Blackcat had a decent bite and landed a doggie about an hour in. Which turned out to be the only fish of the session for us although we missed 1 or 2 bite each near the end.
Barrelreef blanked!!

Getting back to the carpark at the end of the match and after the lads counting up the totals. The WSF team Wales had won!!!!

A few bass had been caught along with some flatties doggies and a couple of golden grey mullet.

Even though the fish didn't want to play for us. We had a thouroughly enjoyable day and was good to meet up with some old pals and meet one or two new ones.

Roll on match 7!!!!

19th West Aberthaw again

Witht the tide sizes good Barrelreef and Teggy fished Aberthaw. Although the weather was good there was a brisk wind kicking up a bit of an uncomfortable surf.

Just as we were setting up an angler came over and asked us to weigh his smoothie he had just caught, a good fish that went 10 and half pounds.
Things looked promising.

2nd cast barrelreef had a run and connected to a smoothie. After a brief battle, Teggy helped land the fish and after weighing and some pictures the fish was released unharmed. A good start with a starry just pushing 9lb!

Teggy then had a run bite the fish went to ground and snagged him up and the line snapped.

Went quiet although a few more smoothies were landed by other anglers further up. As the tide turned the surf and rip kicked up and made holding bottom difficult So we called it a day!

Not a bad session but Teggy still looking to better his 1st shore smoothie of 4lb

20th - Fontgary ledges

Had some crab left from the previous days Aberthaw trip so blcakcat and Barrelreef fished Fontygary for the 1st time
didnt fancy fishing off the cliff so fished the ledges to the left of the steps.

Barrelreef had a good run an hour before high water and with Blackcat's help landed a 9lb & 1/2lb starry!!

Blackcat thought he had a good bite but it truned out to be anther angler had cast over him and was winding his line in

Around high water and as darkness came, Barrel had another run but the fish dropped the bait.
Blackcat also had a bite which was missed.

We ran out of bait soon after just as it seemd the fishing could get better as darkness fell.......Never mind thats how it goes!!

A nice comfortable mark to fish and one to remember for future trips

25th West Aberthaw

Barrelreef and blackcat went down armed with loads of weights and peelers!

Conditions seemd nigh on perfect, light southerly wind, calm sea and warm but overcast.

Saw quite a few smoothies come out as we were setting up. The mark also filled up with anglers, most I've seen down there.

1st couple of casts didnt produce any hounds but did result in losing plenty of end tackle.

Then about an hour down to low Barrelreef had a good run but it got snagged up and snapped with a fish on!

Then it was Blackcat's trun and exactly the same happened to him. Not good!!

Saw a few come out near us though.....seemed like we must have picked the roughest part of the ledges to fish. We though about moving but there were so many down there it would have been difficult. Also tried different methods of weak links in case this was the problembut that didnt help either.

Another run each and the result was the same....snagged and snapped.

Called it a day when the tide turned and put a bad day down to experience!

Barrelreef - Blanked
